these super pictures. thanks to those that let their images be borrowed for a while our images in brunch east kent cup 2018 the gateway club took part in the annual east kent cup competition, contested between gateway cc, deal cc, canterbury ps, folkestone cc and isle of thanet ps. this year isle of thanet were the hosts and judged by chris shore frps efiap mpagb bpe5* gateway were the eventual winners on 147 points, with canterbury second on 142. folkestone were third, a further point back on 141. chris shore presents the east kent cup to chris allen, chairman of gateway camera club individual scores for gateway were as follows prints steve finch (dawn 17 points) phil hadley (focused ahead 20 points) peter greenstreet (high alert 18 points) gary stamp (southern hawker on rush 19 points) pdi chris allen (medieval tunnels 18 points) peter greenstreet (the voyager 20 points) tony scarfe (pictured smoking 16 points) phil hadley (water droplets on common wasp 19 points) battle with canterbury photographic society last week the gateway camera club took part in a battle with the canterbury photographic society at the crabble corn mill . at the interval tea break following the print round, judge glyn bareham had awarded gateway 226 points and canterbury 219 points. in the second half he awarded gateway 228 points for their pdi images and 214 points to canterbury. so at the end of a really enjoyable evening the final scores were 454 points to gateway and 433 points to canterbury. recent studio night the gateway club recently held a studio night arranged by our resident expert, mr tony scarfe. tony brought along our model for the night nick, who dressed as his alter ego ginger for the evening. phil hadley's image "ginger", taken at the studio night. royal air force red arrows stamps one of our members, matt hayward, has had one of his photos used on the cover of the royal air force red arrows book of stamps. matt was contacted by buckingham cover to ask for permission to use the image, which was one of many that he took at the herne bay airshow. they have also asked for permission to contact him again next year when they produce the 2019 set of stamps. red arrows stamp book matt hayward's image "smoke on" dover express front page not content with that matt also had his image printed on the front page of the dover express. as part of the dover moon walk the dover castle was lit up in pink for the evening. matt's image was used in the express for an article about the event. moon walk article < focuspoint magazine letter matt hayward seems to be on a bit of a roll at the moment. his letter, with a photo, was published as the star letter in focuspoint magazine and won matt a prize. matt hayward's letter ross cup 2017 on 26th november a number of club members made the trip to the ditton community centre for the results of this year's ross cup. for those who don't know this is the biggest event in the kcpa year in which every club in the kcpa can enter 8 prints to be judged by a premier judge from outside the county. this year 33 clubs entered the competition and the judge was chris palmer frps dpagb apagb afiap who had the unenviable task of living with 264 images for a month and deciding on scores for each print. the judge chose one print from each club to analyze and describe and in our case he chose matt pigg's image "over the top". chris is a retired air traffic controller and he really appreciated this shot. he said that matt's image "showed good control of the light against a stormy sky and was a powerful piece of photography." matt pigg's image "over the top" as well as scoring the images the judge also chose 10 images to be given merit awards and he chose 2 images from the gateway camera club. these were "focused ahead" by phil hadley cpagb and "southern hawker on rush" by gary stamp cpagb. chris said that phil's image "showed a quality of photographic colour harmony, a strong quality of light and was an example of really good sport's photography.". he said that gary's image was of a high pictorial quality with the insect in a good position in the photograph. he said that it was a wonderful piece of photography." phil hadley's image "focused ahead" gary stamp's image "southern hawker on rush" at the end we found that gateway had come a very respectable equal 6th out of 33 clubs entering, scoring 133 out of 160, only 8 points behind the eventual winners beckenham photographic society as well as the ross cup a number of awards took place and one of these was gary stamp being awarded his cpagb certificate. gary gained this qualification a while ago but it was nice for him to finally receive his certificate in such prestigious surroundings. congratulations are due to canterbury photographic society who, having finished 29th last year, finished in 2nd place and won the award for the most improved club. one of their members, stewart mckeown, won the lakeland cup for the best landscape image with his image "low tide at kingsgate". field trips this year gateway camera club members decided to carry on meeting during the
